HYPNOSIS AND HYPNOTHERAPY
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring process that we experience in our every day lives, sometimes without realising. It is that moment when you find yourself in your own little world, when your mind has drifted into a daydream. It is also when you find yourself staring, fixed on a particular spot, yet you are fully aware of your surroundings. Hypnosis is not magic and alone, can simply achieve a wonderful state of calmness and relaxation. It is the therapy used with hypnosis that produces change.
Hypnotherapy is a skill, which uses hypnosis for the administration of many various forms of psychotherapy. Whilst in the deeply relaxed state of hypnosis the subconscious mind is more receptive and accepts changes more readily. This is a safe and highly effective way of changing negative thoughts and behaviour patterns.
Suggestion based therapy allows the subconscious mind to accept positive suggestions as the new preferred behaviour to bring about change. This is ideal for helping people cope with such things as driving test and other exam nerves, social situations, confidence issues, stoping smoking, nail biting, other unwanted habits and much more. Suggestion therapy usually requires between 1 to 4 sessions.
Analytical therapy, ‘Hypnoanalysis’, is used for more deep rooted, emotional and psychological problems. It allows the client to return to past experiences and memories, to find and remove any underlying cause of the symptom, with the guidance and support of the therapist. This is an effective way of treating such symptoms as stress, emotional problems, irrational fears, phobias, panic attacks and much more.
Hypnoanalysis usually requires between 6 to 10 sessions.
Hypnotherapy is widely used for all psychosomatic disorders. (i.e. those mental and emotional states which actually produce physical symptoms)
In a nutshell, hypnotherapy can generally help with any problem you're finding hard to handle on your own - thoughts and actions you'd like to banish or acquire, or emotional suffering that is too overwhelming or has gone on too long. Many physical problems can also be treated effectively by hypnotherapy.

- Confidence Issues - Depression
- Driving Test Nerves - Emotional Difficulties
- Exam Nerves - Goal Achievement
- Grief - Guilt
- Habits - Irrational Fears
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome - Insomnia

Common Myths
Unfortunately, hypnosis is misunderstood by many. People feel apprehensive when they do not understand or cannot physically see how something works. For this reason, hypnosis has been plagued by untrue stories and myths. For anyone looking for reassurance regarding hypnosis, the following list of facts is to help put an end to any of those concerns and misconceptions:
- You cannot, at any time, be made to do anything you do not want to do.
- You are not in anybody’s power and nobody can take control of you.
- You are totally aware of yourself and your surroundings at all times.
- You do not become in anyway unconscious or semi conscious.
- You can leave the hypnotic state whenever you decide to.
- You do not do or say funny things unless you want to.
- Hypnosis is a truly natural state of mind and body.
- You cannot get stuck, this is impossible.
Working within a therapeutic setting means there must be a certain standard of behaviour and professionalism.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming
NLP is a form of psychotherapy and is now accepted by a wide range of fields, such as sports science, sales and marketing, business communication, healing and health, and education. NLP is a systematic approach to changing the way we think, behave and communicate in order to improve our experience of life.
NLP is a short term, goal-orientated and practical therapeutic approach to problem solving. Whatever problem you have, NLP can help.
People use NLP for many reasons and have often explored other forms of therapy and counselling beforehand. Areas that can be helped include coping with stress, anger management, anxiety, emotional issues, pain control and physical symptoms; the list is endless.
Everyone has all the resources they need to make positive changes in their life, NLP techniques are used as a tool to facilitate these changes, leaving you to concentrate on what you are thinking, feeling and any other sensory observations.
New patterns of behaviour are established and the NLP techniques learned can be used in other situations. So YOU become your own expert. This reduces the potential for reliance on the therapist.
Experience shows that NLP Therapy also tends to be fast, typically resolving issues in several brief sessions.
There are clearly physical benefits from a One to One NLP session in coping with stress. When we struggle with problems we feel the affects of stress, especially when the problems are longstanding. Addressing the problem reduces the level of stress so therefore not only do we feel better emotionally, we feel physically better too.
NLP is becoming increasingly mainstream and has been described as the next generation of psychology, and uses physiology and the unconscious mind to change thought processes and therefore behaviour.
‘Stress is not what happens to us but rather our response to what happens, and response is something we can choose’
